Derren Brown controls the nation
So, I’ve just watched the latest installment of Derren Brown’s EVENTS series and I found it a breath of fresh air from last weeks show, which for me was a bit of a let down. This week was all about subliminal messaging and suggestion.
I was curious about this show because as far as I’m aware there is a broadcasting regulation that prevents use of subliminal footage, so I did wonder how Derren would get around this. Then again, I guess that given he actually made a point of saying this is what he was doing he’s hardly going to increase burger sales.
The point is, however, the film didn’t actually have any subliminal footage at all, the whole process was achieved through Derren’s suggestion that the film will make you stick to your seat, and that was enough for approximately 20% of the population to be affected.
Great stuff, and I found the tricks he did during the show equally entertaining; the giraffe routine was simply brilliant.
I’m looking forward to next weeks show.
Oh, and for those interested in how easily pure suggestion can affect someone on a kinesthetic level, check out the below footage of me sticking peoples hands to their heads and making one woman forget her name. These are all standard techniques used on Derren’s show, albeit, his were on a grand scale of several million.

I can’t agree more. This week was incredibly strong from start to finish and I really enjoyed it. Such a shame last week felt to weak and misjudged – this post elesewhere (http://ninethirtyfive.wordpress.com/2009/09/12/derren-brown-lottery-reveal-missing-footage-proves-he-rigged-it/) certainly asks questions as to why he didn’t use the reveal as it might (just) of stuck the show together presentation wise.
