Weekly puzzle 10 – solution
Island On Fire
The man breaks off a branch from one of the trees and uses the fire to set it alight. He then takes it close to the Western most side of the island and starts a new fire. This fire burns from where he started it to the Western most point of the island. During this time, the man stands in the space between the two fires. The second fire is started so that its area is far smaller than the main fire and so this burns out first. The man then stands in the space where the second fire burnt and when the first fire reaches it, it cannot go any further. The man survives, but the whole island is burnt.
Well done to Joao Pedro Afonso who got it spot on!
