GLOSSARY - Useful "Magic" words to know about

Sleight of hand
Also known as 'prestidigitation' ("quick fingers") or léger de main (from the French for "lightness of hand"), is the set of techniques used by a magician (or card sharp) to manipulate objects such as cards and coins secretly.

Mentalism
The branch of magic that specialises in mind reading and psychic phenomena.

Closeup Magic
Magic performed up close, right under peoples noses.

Mix n Mingle
A form of closeup magic performed whilst people are standing in groups, whereby the magician mingles with the crowd performing to small groups at a time.

Table hopping magic
A form of closeup magic performed whilst people are sitting at tables, usually during a meal, whereby the magician entertains a table at a time, between courses.

Cabaret magician
A magician who performs on stage to an audience.

Parlour Magician
A magician who performs intimate tricks to a small audience, usually without the need of a stage.

Wedding Magician
An entertainer who specialises in performing magic tricks at weddings.

Corporate Magician
An entertainer who specialises in performing magic tricks at corporate events - Christmas Parties, Corporate Launches, Trade Shows etc.

Party Magician
An entertainer who specialises in performing magic tricks at private events such as Birthday's, Anniversary's, Bartmitvah's etc
